San Antonio City Hall is one of the city’s most recognizable civic landmarks and serves as the administrative heart of local government. Located at 100 Military Plaza in the historic downtown district, this Renaissance Revival–style building has been home to city leadership since its dedication in 1891. Beyond its architectural prominence, City Hall remains a vibrant public space where residents and elected officials come together to discuss policy, share community concerns, and celebrate civic progress.

The building’s design—marked by its limestone façade, arched windows, and iconic red-tiled roof—reflects the city’s blend of European, Mexican, and South Texas heritage. Inside, restored council chambers, press areas, and meeting rooms accommodate public hearings, forums, and special events throughout the year.

City Hall is surrounded by key civic and cultural sites, including Main Plaza, the Spanish Governor’s Palace, and San Fernando Cathedral, making it an anchor of public life in the city center. The plaza often hosts festivals, commemorations, and open-air community programs, connecting government institutions to the broader San Antonio community.
