Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center
The Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center (ESB-MACC) is a division of the City of Austin’s Parks and Recreation Department dedicated to preserving, creating, and promoting Mexican American, Chicano, and Latino cultures through the arts and community engagement.
Located along Lady Bird Lake in the heart of downtown Austin, the ESB-MACC hosts year-round programs, performances, workshops, and festivals that reflect the rich diversity of Latino cultural expression. Its flagship events—such as the Day of the Dead Festival (Día de los Muertos) and La Mujer (Women’s Empowerment Arts Celebration)—serve as powerful platforms for education, remembrance, and community unity.
The ESB-MACC’s mission is to create a vibrant cultural space that fosters creativity, dialogue, and connection among people of all backgrounds while celebrating Austin’s Mexican American heritage.
Mission Statement:
To preserve, create, present, and promote Mexican American cultural arts and heritage for the enrichment of all generations.
