Mexic-Arte Museum
Founded in 1984, Mexic-Arte Museum is the Official Mexican and Mexican American Fine Arts Museum of Texas, dedicated to enriching the community through the preservation, exhibition, and promotion of traditional and contemporary Mexican, Latino, and Latin American art and culture.
As one of the few Mexican art museums in the United States accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, Mexic-Arte has become a cornerstone of Austin’s cultural landscape. Its exhibitions, public programs, and community partnerships celebrate the living traditions of Mexican heritage while supporting emerging and established artists.
The museum’s Viva la Vida Festival & Parade—now in its 42nd year—is Austin’s longest-running Día de los Muertos celebration, featuring a vibrant downtown procession, art market, and cultural performances that draw thousands each October. Through events like Viva la Vida, Mexic-Arte Museum transforms the streets of Austin into a canvas of color, remembrance, and community spirit.
Mission Statement:
To enrich and educate the community through the collection, preservation, and interpretation of Mexican, Latino, and Latin American art and culture.
